Many more mineral deposits may be discovered in Belarus. This was stated on the air of the STV channel by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Andrei Kovkhuto, BELTA reports.
"The territory of Belarus is quite well studied. Practically all deposits located on the surface have already been discovered. However, we have unexplored areas in the subsoil, and there are quite a lot of them. Therefore, it cannot be said that we know everything about the republic's subsoil. We are confident that many more deposits will be discovered in the country," said Andrei Kovkhuto.
The minister also noted that Belarusian geologists have extensive experience in studying the subsoil, which can be applied abroad. "This concerns the export of services and the performance of work in other countries," he explained.
According to Andrei Kovkhuto, potash fertilizers remain a strategic type of raw material for the development of the Belarusian economy. "We possess a large amount of potash salts; three major deposits have been explored in the country: Starobinskoye, Petrikovskoye, and Oktyabrskoye. The raw material base is quite large – over 7.5 billion tons of salts have been explored, and there are still reserves," noted the head of the department.
