This was stated by the Chairman of the Central Council of DOSAAF, Major General Anatoly Stepuk, today at the opening of the international rally "Slavic Cup" in Braslav, reports BELTA correspondent.
Today, DOSAAF cultivates the development of 19 aviation and technical sports. Autoracing is one of the most spectacular disciplines. For Belarusian motorsport, holding an international rally in Braslav is a significant event that opens up broad prospects. The race is included in the official calendar of the International Automobile Federation. In addition, for the first time in Belarus, the third stage of the Russian Rally Championship is held simultaneously with one of the stages of the Belarusian Rally Championship. The competitions are held in the Vitebsk region not by chance, as the region is a recognized center of motorsport in Belarus. National championships in autoracing, autocross, and jeep-trial are held here. The Braslav track is famous for its first-class rally sections - high-speed and technical, which impose high demands on the crews' performance.
A total of 55 crews from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Lithuania started the "Slavic Cup". Belarus is represented by 15 crews, including a team consisting of Anatoly Shumakovsky and Igor Makarchuk - they are participating in the international part of the competition. The rest will try their hand in the national classes. In addition, among the participants of one of the Russian teams are drivers from Sweden, Patrik Flodin and Emil Axelsson, who are the current champions of Russia.
The total route length is 385 km, of which the competitive section is over 200 km, and the high-speed special stages (with jumps and turns) reach 155 km. The competitive part of the route consists of four sections, each with three special stages. Today, participants will overcome two sections with a length of 104 km (of which special stages will be about 75 km). The remaining two sections (98 km) are to be driven on May 22. Spectator stands are equipped on the most interesting sections of the track. The start and finish of the competitions are organized in the district center itself and attracted a large number of spectators.-0-
